Fried chicken afternoon tea @ Yard & Coop

I like a bit of afternoon tea, I really do - except I don't actually drink tea and I'm a really fussy eater so a lot of the sandwich fillings just aren't my thing. I've done swing afternoon tea and one at the Hilton too, but when I arranged for the North West Blog Gang to have afternoon tea at Yard & Coop in Liverpool, I somehow knew this one would be better...

Yard & Coop, Liverpool

I've been to Yard & Coop many a time (their cherryade is genuinely addictive) and always enjoyed it. Liverpool boasts a lot of restaurants and eateries, and this is one of my favourites. Located on Hanover Street, you'll be able to find it because there's a big chicken statue outside on the street. Just head downstairs (there's a lift or you can take the stairs) and wait to be seated.

They have recently added a games area with old-school arcade games, which you can buy tokens to play, as well as an old bath filled with multicoloured plastic balls which makes for the perfect Instagram photo. A little bird told us that they're even adding a soundproofed karaoke room, so you can get I'll be trying to arrange some sort of Christmas night out there!

Fried chicken afternoon tea

So, what exactly is fried chicken afternoon tea? It's pretty much exactly what it sounds like. You get a cake stand and on the bottom there's a huge pile of chips covered in 3 sauces: Bee's Knees, which is spicy, they Blue Cheese sauce and the Dr Pepper BBQ sauce as well as chicken strips. I got my chicken strips gluten-free, and they tasted just as lush as the regular ones that I've had time & time again! You get 4 chicken strips per person and LOADS of chips.

The middle tier has the Amaizeballs (deep fried sweetcorn) and some Gunpowder Chicken with a few other sauces. Absolutely lush, and you get one of each per person.

On the top tier we got brownies and cupcakes. These are homemade and the buttercream icing on the cupcake was the best I've ever tried - sorry mum! Seriously though, to die for. You get one cake and one brownie per person.

As well as all this food, each person gets a Yard & Coop gin serve cocktail. I opted for the Strawberry Flyer: gin, strawberry liquor and lime juice with tonic (though I swapped that for lemonade) finished off with strawberries and basil. Delicious and absolutely HUGE.

Would I recommend the fried chicken afternoon tea?

For all that scran AND a massive gin cocktail, it'll set you back £20 per head. I think this is such good value for money - you'll struggle to eat all of what you're given, it all tastes delicious and you get loads of gin too. What more could you want?

So yes, I'd highly recommend the fried chicken afternoon tea from Yard & Coop! Rumour has it there'll be a special edition Christmas afternoon tea available, so keep your eyes peeled for that...
