I absolutely love Greece - which is definitely a trait I get from my parents! Most of their holidays are to Greek islands, and we've been to our fair share of the country. Everywhere is so beautiful, the people are incredible friendly, and don't get me started on the food...
My most recent (proper) trip to Greece was to the gorgeous resort of Kefalos on the island of Kos - I had the absolute best time and it truly reginited my love for both Greece and a relaxing holiday. You might know I'm more of a city break kind of gal, but there's nothing wrong with spending a week on a sunbed with a good book and a cocktail in hand! Without further ado, I want to share my dream Santorini trip in case you need some inspiration for a future holiday; I definitely hope to make this one a reality at some point soon.
Where I'd stay in Santorini
Put simply, if I'm going to Santorini then it's got to be boujie. I want views for days and a pretty hotel with a hot tub - which is why Theodora Suites definitely fit the bill. Clean white rooms, panoramic views, private terraces/balconies (all of which have a hot tub and sun loungers!), well-reviewed breakfast... yep, this one sounds like a bit of me. It's located in Oia, which leads me on to...
The best things to do in Santorini
When it comes to *my* Santorini bucket list, I've done plenty of research - so here's what I think look like the best things to do in Santorini...
Oia sunset
Watching the sunset is Oia is an absolute must when visiting Santorini. It definitely gets busy at the sunset spots from what I've heard, but from the million photographs across the internet I have to say it looks SO worth it. Oia Castle is one of the most popular spots to watch the sky change colour, offering views of the famous whitewashed buildings and cute windmills. This blog post shares the best places in Oia to watch the sun go down!
Prophet Elias Monastery
If you rent a car in Santorini then you can see so much of the island - including the Prophet Elisa Monastery, which is definitely on my list of things to do in Santorini. Near the village of Pyrgos, this is said to be one of the most important locations on the island - and it's also the highest point, meaning the views are breathtaking. The monastery itself is closed for visitors, but there are 4 other churches & chapels there which you can go into as well as a small museum. It's definitely something to consider if you fancy peeling yourself off your sunbed for a few hours! For more info, this article about the Prophet Elias Monastery is really helpful.
Volcano boat tour
There are plenty of boat tours available from Santorini port, which is to be expected when you're on an island. The one I'd definitely want to be doing is to Nea Kameni, just 20 minutes away by boat - you get off here and can visit a volcano, with optional guided tour. You can walk right to the ridge of the volcano here! The next stop on this boat tour is Palea Kameni, which has amazing thermal hot springs; these are meant to be SO good for your skin and trust me, I need all the help I can get when it comes to my skin...
Wine tasting
There are plenty of wineries across the island of Santorini, and wine tasting is definitely something to look into especially if you're considering affordable car hire in Santorini! Wine tasting is something I've actually never done, and I can think of a more beautiful place to experience it for the first time. I've done some research, and some of the best wineries you can visit include:
Oh my gosh I would absolutely LOVE to go to Santorini, it looks absolutely beautiful, a dream! Wine tasting would be high on my list!
