Focus on: facial oils

It's been a while since I did a 'focus on' style post, and they're normally about specific brands - but I wanted to write one focusing on a specific type of product. I've been loving facial oils lately; the change in season (and my hormones being all over the place) has meant havoc for my skin. I've been covered in spots but my skin's been flaky, and I've found the best way to target it has been facial oils.

I've got three in my collection right now; the Dermalogica Phyto Replenish Oil (which I won't harp on about because I've done a full review) as well as one from Honey Bee Beautiful, and the MOA Facial Oil.

The Honey Bee Beautiful Natural Ultimate Moisture Facial Oil is the cheapest of the lot, at just under £16 for 30ml. It's a thick oil, and it takes ages to sink in but I can really feel this one working, and when I wake up my skin isn't red or flaky or dry without having that greasy film over it like some products leave you with. I use this on it's own after toner, and honestly I think it's amazing.

Next up it's MOA's offering - Magic Organic Apothecary Aphrodite Facial Oil which was in the #NWmeet goody bags. Now, it's taken me a while to get around to trying this, admittedly, because until I got back into using the Honey Bee Beautiful oil I was stuck in the "oils are bad for oily skin" trap which is SO NOT TRUE. If you use oil, your skin will produce less of it's own "bad" oils; at least I think that's how it works but I'm not an expert don't quote me. It seems to be working for me, anyway - using facial oils doesn't get rid of blemishes but it does slow their production down. Anyway - I don't like the MOA oil as much as the HBB one, because it's a lot thinner and therefore more runny, sitting on the skin rather than sinking it - but it's still a good'un, though a little more expensive at twenty quid for the same 30ml. It has such an Instagram-friendly aesthetic to it, though.

Y'all know my thoughts on the oil that Dermalogica have to offer, but I will say that that's one I use mixed in with a moisturiser, rather than on it's own with these two - so it's slightly different, and it's hella expensive but I do like it.

I think you can't go wrong with a good facial oil - nourishing for dry skin and helpful for oily skin, and also really versatile. Definitely add one to your skincare routine if you haven't already!

  1. I'm officially obsessed with facial oils! I always shied away because of my oily skin but it's easily one of the best products I've introduced into my regime! I've been loving MOA and Miss Organics lately!
