Absalon Hotel, Copenhagen | review

We recently returned from a 3-night, 4-day break in Copenhagen, Denmark. I booked this trip as a package through easyJet Holidays, as I had a £500 voucher which I won on twitter (?!) - the trip cost around £680 for the two of us, so we paid the rest off and we were ready to go.

Absalon Hotel, Copenhagen - location

I chose this hotel based off the location, mostly; having never been to Copenhagen before I wasn't 100% sure what would be the best area to stay in, but the Absalon Hotel is (very) near the central train station so it seemed like a safe bet. And it really was; it was super easy to get to, just a couple of minutes walk from the station (trains and metros) with bus stops nearby too. It took us around half an hour or so to wander to the Nyhavn Canal area, and there were plenty of places to eat/drink near the hotel too. And with the central station literally on the doorstep we could get pretty much anywhere, so I'd definitely recommend in terms of location!

Absalon Hotel - checking in & our room

We arrived at the hotel at around midday after being awake since 1am - check in isn't until 3pm, but I'd read that we could leave our bags while we went out to explore so that was the plan! But here's where it gets interesting... a few months ago, I'd emailed the hotel to let them know we were planning to come and stay to celebrate our engagement, and so would love to be considered for any upgrades. Don't ask, don't get! They'd emailed back letting me know how much it would cost to upgrade, and I didn't really think any more of it. Alexander on the front desk, who was absolutely charming, saw this as he was checking our booking; he immediately congratulated us, and found us an upgrade to a superior room with early check in. We were over the moon, and he promised to do his best to do something else for us but we didn't think any more of it...

Our room was on the 5th floor so we got the lift up and walked in; the room was gorgeously decorated with a super comfy bed, two chairs and a table, wardrobe, coffee machine, fridge, bottled water and clothes steamer. We had a spacious en suite with lights that you can change the colour of, which was pretty fun; the bathroom had a toilet, sink, bath and shower with a long counter under the mirror so plenty of space to store my excessive amount of skincare. The only let down was the shower, which didn't stay up properly making it pretty awkward to actually have a wash. But other than that, the room was perfect with air-con and big windows!

Absalon Hotel, Copenhagen - green concept

One of our favourite things about the hotel was their green concept; you can decline housekeeping in exchange for a gift of either a 100DKK bar voucher, 50% off bike hire or a Ren bodycare product. This is such a great idea, and with a brilliant incentive - we ended up getting 4 free drinks with our vouchers when we declined, all for the sake of not having fresh towels each day etc.

Absalon Hotel - bar & breakfast

We had breakfast included each morning - pastries, delicious bread, ham, cheese, cereal, fruit, yoghurt, juice, water, coffee, eggs, pancakes and tiny frankfurters as well as the usual jam, Nutella and so on. There was plenty of it, and plenty of seating too; even when it was busy we didn't struggle to find somewhere to sit. We also had a couple of drinks at the bar, which was lovely. The bar staff were always friendly, the drinks lovely & cold, and again there's plenty of seating as well as a little outdoor courtyard.

Absalon Hotel, Copenhagen - checking out

Checking out was a super easy process; we left our bags in the luggage storage room, and held onto our key card for when we came back. After another day of exploring, we headed back to the hotel and swapped our key for a different card which opened the luggage room as well as an area with two bathrooms - perfect for freshening up before the flight, meaning I could take my make up off and brush my teeth etc. There's loads of seating around this area too, and they were happy for us to hang around/charge our phones/relax until it was time to head to the airport.

Would I recommend the Absalon Hotel in Copenhagen?

100% - it's a really lovely hotel with comfortable beds, friendly staff, plenty of space and a brilliant green concept. It's also in a central location, easy to get to, and felt completely safe. If you're looking to book a Copenhagen city break either yourself or through easyJet Holidays, you won't go wrong if you book the Absalon Hotel, Copenhagen.

PS, sorry for the dire lack of photos... but I have done a reel showing the hotel much better!
