5 Reasons to Drop "Fashion Trends" for Good!

This is a collaborative guest post post.

If you know me, you probably know I don't really follow trends - I just don't really care that much, as long as I'm comfortable. But I know for a lot of people, keeping up with the latest trend is super important. This guest post is all about why it might not always be a good idea...

Fashion is all about aesthetics. But it is also about what you want to project to the world. It is important to understand that there are a lot of people who think they should follow fashion trends because they are worried that they will be excluded from society or not be able to get a job. However, most people don't realize that following these trends can lead to long-term consequences such as bad health, low self-esteem, and financial instability.

On top of that, there are a lot of unethical practices within the fashion industry and even harmful to the environment. Trends are lasting as short as a month now when it was once for years on end. The best way to fight all of this is to stop following these trends, and here is everything you need to know...

Never forget who you are, the real you

Are you dressing up as the real you? That’s one major question and debate that comes up in regard to trends. Do you even like what’s trendy? You need to remember who the real you are and only dress up in clothes that actually reflect who you are and what you stand for. Don’t bye something or follow a trend just to look “cool” or “good.” While yes, creating a fashion wish list is totally okay, there need to be some limits.

You're only hurting yourself by following those trends

Fashion trends are often seen as a way to express yourself and your individuality. But the truth is that following fashion trends can have a negative impact on your life. While yes, they’re great for self-expression, whether it be wearing an opal septum ring to carrying a fashionable bag. However, you have to keep in mind that you’re only hurting yourself in the long run.

These fashion trends are constantly changing almost daily. Following fashion trends can lead to spending too much money on clothes that aren't really worth it. It can also make you feel like you're never good enough or stylish enough to fit in with the crowd. You don’t need others to validate you.

You're not a trendsetter, and it’s okay

It's not necessary to be a trendsetter. It's important to know what your comfort zone is and experiment with different trends and styles. The world of fashion is constantly changing and evolving, which means that there will always be new trends coming out. This can make it difficult for people who are not in the know about the latest styles to keep up with what’s in or what’s out. Trendsetters and trend followers are out there desperately trying to be cool and look amazing, but is it even worth it?

It's a waste of your money

Most people have a limited budget to spend on clothes. Whether you are a student, a professional, or someone who is retired, you have to make sure that the money you spend on clothes is well spent. Clothing can be expensive, and it often feels like there is never enough money in your wallet or budget for all the things you want. Besides, fast fashion is not only getting more expensive but lower in quality too. It is definitely not worth wasting money on something that is going to be destroyed in the next wash, right?

It’s harmful

In general, all of these fashion trends are harmful to the environment. Whether it’s due to TikTok or other social media platforms, trends have gotten worse. As stated earlier, in as little as a week a trend can be born and die. It’s harmful to the environment. Besides, would you really want to be offended by someone calling you “cheugy”?
