Five recent reads | April 20 - part 2

Posting two recent reads posts in one month? Who is she?! But like most people, my book consumption is on the up right now so here's what I've been reading recently...

The House We Grew Up In by Lisa Jewell is fantastic. It's an exploration of broken families and how, despite all the odds, they can mend their way back together. I love everything she writes and this is no exception - I'd definitely recommend this one. It's a fairly easy read but a really good (and very layered) storyline.

Next I read The Manifesto on How to be Interesting by Holly Bourne. As YA authors go, she is absolutely killing it - and this book is no exception. It's about a girl in secondary school who decides to experiment with 'being popular' and write a blog about it. Truly enjoyable stuff!

I got My Mum Tracy Beaker by Jacqueline Wilson when it was first released, but never got around to reading it until last week - it's obviously aimed at young teens, so I flew threw it, but it's a gorgeous little story line. If you were a JW fan as a kid then I'd definitely recommend reading this because good old Tracy Beaker is all grown up with a kid of her own. It's a real 'easy read' and just generally some lovely nostalgia.

My next read was yet another Holly Bourne book: The Places I've Cried in Public. This is a pretty sad story but so well written, with relatable characters and a very strong lesson about not letting anyone manipulate you. It isn't my absolute favourite of all her books, but it's still a great read about a girl who loses herself to a shitty relationship.

Last but not least, I finally got around to reading Messy, Wonderful Us by Catherine Isaac. Her first novel, You Me Everything, was amazing and I had high hopes for this one. I wasn't disappointed. It's a gorgeous story about a woman who goes off to Italy in search of the answers to a burning question surrounding her paternity. Love love loved it.

I'm sure there'll be plenty more recent reads coming soon - let me know in the comments what you've been reading too! I've got loads of books on my Amazon wishlist, if you're looking for even more ideas about what I *think* will be good to read.
