Essential bar shift make up

You might know I work in a pub on Saturday nights (and some other nights too) and it is HOT. With the glass washer, all the electricity and body heat behind the bar it's no wonder the temperature practically rivals the Caribbean. With that in mind, and knowing how dry & rubbish my skin is, finding make up that lasts for a whole bar shift is no mean feat. I have managed to find some gems, though, so here's my essential bar shift make up...

On my face I tend to go for the Catrice 24h Made to Stay foundation which I've fully reviewed here and absolutely love; it genuinely lasts soooo well and still looks boss at the end of the night. One of the blushers that lasts the longest on me - though I do have to use a light hand because it's so dark - is the Too Faced Love Flush long lasting 16-hour blush which, now I'm actually looking at the name, would obviously be one that holds up pretty well! I have the shade Your Love is King and everything about it is so pretty.

For my brows, the Colourpop brow pot is definitely the thing that lasts the longest on my brows - I find powders just wear away, even if I do set them, so a pomade or something similar is definitely the way to go if you need your brows to stick around. I've blogged about this one before and I still adore it. Most eyeshadows tend to last really well on me, to be fair, but I was particularly impressed with eyeshadow palette from the Pixi x It's Judy Time collab (post on the Pixi Pretties range coming soon!) - the colours are gorgeous and it lasted such a decent amount of time.

I tend not to powder my face because my skin is SO dry, but if I do then it's usually the lighter shade from the Wet n Wild contouring palette in Dulce De Leche on my forehead and under my eyes, which lasts pretty well. For highlighter, my long lasting hero is the Make Up Revolution Radiant Lights highlighter in Exhale which is genuinely one of the best make up products I own.

In terms of something long lasting for the lips, I find a liquid lipstick is definitely the way to go; some  of my favourites include the Kat Von D everlasting liquid lipsticks, the UD Vice liquid lipsticks and the NYX lip lingerie range. I tend to go for nude shades when I'm working, because if they do come off I've really got no chance of going to top them up so I'd rather not be going round with faded bright pink lips... Last but not least, a setting spray is key to making sure everything lasts that little bit longer - and my favourite at the minute is the Gerard Cosmetics slay all day setting spray which is cooling, refreshing, and genuinely works. I have the cucumber one and it smells incredible!

Soooo that's what you'll likely find me wearing behind the bar to ensure I still look good at the end of it - I'm yet to find an under-eye concealer, contour shade, or a mascara that really lasts on me so hit me up with your recommendations please.

  1. This is so helpful i've not long started working behind a bar myself and yes I totally agree it does get hot lol. I have one of the Maxfactor mascaras and I find that really good can't remember what it's called but it's in a green tube. xx
