All I want for Christmas is... I got engaged!

I know the title of this post is grammatically incorrect but I had absolutely no ideas for the letter 'I' post and I really did get engaged this past weekend so why not take the time to share our story?

If you've been reading my blog for a while, you'll know Sam and I were together for a year before, and have been back together a couple of months - you might think this is a bit quick but frankly, I couldn't care less. The day I met Sam I hoped she'd be the girl I'd marry and I never thought I'd actually get the chance to, so I couldn't be happier that this is happening now.

So what happened? Well, we've talked for ages about getting engaged and getting married, and we both really wanted to be officially betrothed so I ordered a ring, and tried to decided how, where and when to go about actually getting down on one knee, literally or otherwise. I'd finally made up my mind that I'd do it just before Christmas, at a spa day/night we're going to for Sam's birthday.

But Saturday rolled around and it was #CarnLIVal and I was just so in love with Sam all day - so proud of her efforts and her people skills and her sense of humour, so glad that she was my partner in life and crime and event-planning. I'd thought about maybe doing it at the event but I knew there was going to be so many people there and it was dark and loud and ultimately, not perfect.

At the pub after, she was asking when I was going to propose and I just kept telling her soon. Turns out, neither of us had any idea how soon it was, but looking at her laughter-filled eyes as she took a shot of something blue and sour, I was desperate to do it. In the car on the way home, I asked Caitlin, Robyn & Kaz what they thought; judging by the screams it was unanimous that I should do it that night.

The lovely Alana was down to stay, who Sam and I both adore, and it seemed that it would probably be the only time our 4 favourite people would be right there with us. So it was settled - I was doing it. I brought the ring downstairs and had a word with myself about seven times over, and then I heard Sam shouting "DO YOU WANT CHEESY CHIPS?". I shouted yes back, then (dressing in an Ellesse hoody and sparkly bee pyjamas) grabbed the ring and went into the living room, where the girls were already posed with their cameras.

I said, "I've got something important to ask you," which is actually a pretty common thing for me to say, so Sam just said "go on?" and I replied, "will you marry me?" whipping the ring out as I did. He response couldn't have been more typical Sam... "Literally yes!"

Then there was a lot of crying and hugging and kissing, followed by alcohol and a bit of cards against humanity - and the cheesy chips of course. To be honest, it wasn't very romantic or flashy but it was perfect. It was us, and I couldn't be happier.
