Where we ate in Warsaw

Food is a massive part of travel for me, and I love seeking out hidden gems wherever I go - though I'm no stranger to a foreign McDonalds, and would never turn my nose up at someone for opting for chain restaurants, because sometimes it's got to be done. But on our recent trip to Warsaw, we mostly visited little restaurants that we'd just stumbled upon and I wanted to put together a post about where we ate in case you're heading there soon and want some dinner time inspiration...

Mamma Mia Never Closed

As you can probably guess, this is an Italian restaurant that's open 24/7, and even better it was on our block; literally less than a minute from door to door. The staff were friendly and welcoming, and there was football on, so it was a winner for us. There wasn't a lot of options in terms of alcohol, but that was fine - P got a beer and I went for a coke, then we both had Gnocchi Sorrentina (tomato, basil, olive oil and mozzarella). The portions were the perfect size and the food was honestly stunning - and it all came to just over 70zloty, which is around £15. If you're looking for something quick, easy and delicious, this is the one for you. Świętokrzyska 32

Freta 12 Pizza & Pasta

More Italian food, this time in the old town. A really cosy little restaurant just past the barbican, you definitely won't be disappointed if you're looking for somewhere to relax and eat good food. We both had a beer, a starter and a main (I had garlic bread and duck ravioli, wow wow wow) and we paid around 95zloty which is less than twenty quid. I think it was possibly a bit of a lunch-time/happy hour deal, but either way we had incredible food for amazing value in a brilliant location. Freta 12

Frida

Because when in Warsaw, eat Mexican food right? I love Frida Kahlo and as soon as I saw this restaurant I knew I wanted to go in, so after visiting Holy Cross to see Chopin's heart we backtracked down the road and popped in. The decor was lush and the staff were really friendly; I had a tequila sunrise bigger than my head (delicious) and P had a beer, then we ordered food. Nachos/cheese/salsa, and homemade guacamole for our starters and then chicken burritos for the mains. It was all amazing and we paid just under £30 which is so reasonable for everything we had! Nowy Świat 34

Hard Rock Café

I haven't been to a Hard Rock in years and I remembered there was one here, so we decided to go for dinner. Still full from our Mexican lunch we decided not to get starters, and just had mains instead. We both had pasta dishes (mine was mac and cheese with chicken, and garlic bread on the side) and fancy cocktails - mine had gin, rum, vodka, blue curaçao and lemonade in - that came in really cool Hard Rock Café Warsaw mason jar glasses to take home. Another 2 beers and a vodka & lemonade later, I was thinking the bill would be huge but it actually only came to 203zloty, which is just over £40. Obviously the Hard Rock is really cool - we had Clive Burr's drum kit just behind us, and there was an original film cell from the movie of Pink Floyd's The Wall. Would recommend! Sexy Duck

This one is kind-of a Polish chain restaurant, as there's another one in Lublin. I didn't actually eat there when I visited Lublin, but it was recommended to us by a friend who has visited Warsaw a lot over the years. So we ventured down there, and it didn't disappoint. I had a buffalo mozzarella pizza, and P had duck ravioli, and it was delicious. We both only had a coke as we'd been so drunk the night before, and the meal came to around £23 so it wasn't the cheapest place we went to, but it was such a vibe. plac Konstytucji 3

Latem Bar & Restaurant

The final restaurant of the holiday and definitely the most special; again this was right in the old town, in market square, and we had it all to ourselves. We both had tomato soup with garlic toast (I think about this soup daily, it was SO good) and P had a massive chunk of salmon with little baked potatoes and Jack Daniels sauce, while I went for a chicken and tomato pasta dish with parmesan that was utterly delicious. I had a coke and P had a beer, and it came to around £25 so again, so affordable. rynek Starego Miasta 10

Warsaw has a lot of Italian restaurants, and traditional Polish restaurants, with some other cuisine available - everywhere we ate had great service, and food to die for at really cheap prices. City breaks to Poland are so affordable, especially when dinner is costing this little!
