My top 7 favourite covers

Music is one of the best things in the world, and there's something exciting about hearing covers of your favourite songs by artists you don't really know, or hearing your favourite artists cover other people's songs that might not necessarily be their style. I thought I'd put together a list of my favourite covers, in case you want to check them out - and please tell me your's down below, because they're something I love discovering!

A Day To Remember // Since U Been Gone (Kelly Clarkson) ADTR are one of my all time favourite bands, and as a kid I loved Kelly Clarkson too - so hearing them cover such an iconic song in their own style is incredible. I particularly love the screamo part, and it's just an all-round banger.

Missy Higgins // If I Could Start Today Again (Paul Kelly) I'd never heard of Paul Kelly until I heard Missy Higgins cover this song - and what a gorgeous song it is. The lyrics are stunning and it's so mellow. The perfect chill music.

Metallica // Whiskey In The Jar (Thin Lizzy/various) There are so many versions of this song, which originates from an old Irish folk song from hundreds of years ago. It was popularised when The Dubliners recorded it in the late 60s, and then Thin Lizzy did a rock version of it as a 7" single in the early 70s. Metallica, who I love, went on to cover this on Garage Inc. in 1998 - and this is my favourite version. It makes me feel so cool to stomp around my house singing it, and I love the music.

Birdy // Skinny Love (Bon Iver) Of course, the original of this song is absolutely beautiful - one of those summer evening songs when the sunset is painting the sky pink and you've got a glass of wine in your hand and your friends around you - and Birdy's cover is equally stunning. Her voice really suits the music and it's just lovely lovely lovely.

New Found Glory // the king of wishful thinking (Go West) I had never heard the original of this song before I heard New Found Glory's cover when my mum bought my brother and I signed copies of From The Screen to Your Stereo Part II which is, as it happens, an album full of covers of songs from films. Anyway, I fell in love with this song and in particular this version of it, although the original is wonderful too. Listening to NFG's cover of it just gives me shivers.

Lisa Mitchell // Stop (The Spice Girls) The first time I heard Lisa's version of this, I honestly didn't realise what song it was - it's softer and slower and higher, and really just doesn't sound that much like the original. Both are complete bops, obviously, but this is definitely one where I prefer the cover...

Gabrielle Aplin // The Power of Love (Frankie Goes to Hollywood) This is the first Gabrielle Aplin song I ever heard and it made me fall in love with her voice; she's one of my favourite artists now, and this song remains one of the most beautiful covers I've ever heard.

So they're MY favourite covers - have you heard any of them? Do you agree? Let me know!
