Talking about periods with Betty Box

Y'all know, I think talking about periods is something we should do til we're blue in the face - but for a lot of young people starting their periods, it's not always an easy conversation to have. They might not have someone older and/or more experienced they can talk to about it, and they might be too shy to do so. And that's okay, but it can be scary to feel like you're in it alone.

That's where companies like Betty come in - they're a site dedicated to all things teenage-girl/femme. There's advice and stories and videos on the website, and my favourite thing of all: the betty box*. It's a period subscription service (think Pink Parcel-esque) solely aimed at younger teenagers. The packaging is funky and bright, much like the site itself, and what's inside is just as good.

You can build the box yourself online; for example, you can choose whether you want pads or tampons, or a mix of the two, and how much absorbency you're after. You can also decide at which point in the month you want it to arrive, which means you can sync it with your cycle - damn good if you ask me.

So you've got a stash of pads and/or tampons arriving each month (meaning you don't have to go out and buy them, which CAN be stressful/embarrassing/awkward for some people, and it shouldn't have to be, there should be no stigma attached; but sadly there is) but not only that, YOU GET PRESENTS AS WELL.

There's a little cotton bag to keep your period necessities in, and then an extra box labelled 'for you' - and it's just jam packed full of goodies to cheer you up, make you feel better about yourself when you're on your period, and give yourself a lil' pamper. In the box I received there was a Nails Inc nail varnish, a Jelly Pong Pong eyeshadow (too cute), a little chocolate bar which was scoffed before I took the photos, some skincare from Sebamed, a Bonnie XO lipstick in a gorgeous nude shade and THE MOST ADORABLE NOTEBOOK IN THE WORLD EVER.

Your first box is only £6.99 and the contents of the box adds up to way more than that; the betty box is a conversation starter, a nice treat and something useful. 10/10 would recommend!

  1. Love how this is more targeted at teens/young adults! I wish something like this had been around when I was a teenager!
