Pro:Voke Hair Colour Remover // review

So - I'm a faux ginger now. I dyed my hair from bleach-blonde to mid-brown to dark brown to a purple colour that I just couldn't shift. I considered whacking a dark brown dye over it but knew it would fade back to purple, and I just didn't suit it at all. I considered spending a wad of cash at the hairdressers going back blonde, but I'd have been there for around 7 hours and ain't no way I'm spending that long looking my ugly mug in the mirror.

I decided I had two options: bleach it, or strip it. I had no idea what colour my hair would go if I did either of those, and as bleach is more damaging than stripping I decided to bite the bullet and strip my hair. I spotted the Pro:Voke Hair Colour Remover (Extra Strength) in Savers for £1.99 and after a quick google search, bought two boxes.

The whole process was easy enough to do - Sam helped me, but I probably could have done it one my own. We mixed the stuff up, sectioned my hair and then whacked it alllll over from root to tip. Now if you've never used a hair colour remover before and don't know much about them, here's a fair warning that it SMELLS LIKE ROTTEN EGGS.

Anyway, we put it all on and I shoved my hair inside a shower cap for good measure (although it didn't say to do this) and left it on for the recommended 30 mins. The smell wasn't unbearable, but it was pretty disgusting; we got used to it, though, and watched a couple of youtube videos. We were able to notice the hair gradually changing colour and going a bit orange, which was cool.

After the 30 minutes were up, I rinsed it for 5 minutes as per the instructions; I then had to apply half the bottle of 'buffer', rinse for a further 5 minutes, then apply the remainder of the 'buffer' and rinse as normal. A lot of rinsing, which meant my arms were aching a bit, but that's mostly just because I have absolutely no muscles.

The colour I was left with is stunning; a reddy-orange-brown that suits me pretty well, even if my roots do need touching up! Another fair warning, the next time I washed my hair the rotten egg smell came back a bit, which is apparently pretty normal. All in all, for a total of 4 quid to get my hair back to a lovely colour without damaging it - I'm pretty pleased. You can't buy the Pro:Voke hair colour remover online, but the Colour B4 version has fantastic reviews, as does the Revolution Beauty Hair Colour Remover.
