I've got a lovely bunch of coconuts...

Excuse the title, I'm going for a new thing where I make my blog post titles amusing and witty although I'm not sure if it's working. Just to clarify, this is a review of some coconut oil that I got in the raffle at #NWbloggersmeetup, courtesy of Lucy Bee.

There's literally a multitude of things you can do with coconut oil, and it can be used as an ingredient in just about anything - there's a host of articles on Google that can give you some ideas! Lucy Bee's coconut oil is raw and organic, and it smells absolutely delicious; almost like a Bounty or a biscuit of some sort. The jar is absolutely huge and I can tell it's gong to last for ages - it's a bit annoying to try and transport it between home and uni, because the jar is glass, but I've decided to just leave it at home and use it when I'm here.

I've been using the coconut oil as a balm cleanser, in much the same way as I used the Body Shop Chamomile Cleansing Butter before I ran out of that. Coconut oil dissolves my make up like a dream, breaking down absolutely everything on dry skin before I wipe it off with a hot flannel. It's gentle on the skin which is something I always look out for, as my skin is beyond sensitive, and it doesn't irritate my eyes either - plus, it works a charm at getting rid of waterproof eye make-up!

As well as cleansing with the coconut oil, I've been using it on any patches of rough and dry skin that don't seem to warrant using my medicated eczema treatment. As I said, it's super gentle so it really soothes irritated skin, and it's really moisturising too.

It can feel greasy on the skin, but when if I buff my face with a flannel the greasiness tends to subside and I'm left with fresh and soft skin, not to mention I smell like I'm lounging underneath a palm tree in a hammock with a Pina Colada in my hand.

If you have any uses for coconut oil, let me know! I'll give anything a go, short of putting it in my mouth because I don't actually like the taste of coconut...

  2. I love coconut oil- I definitely need to try it as a cleanser although I only just bought the body shop chamomile cleansing butter! I put coconut oil in my hair this morning before washing it- left it on for about half an hour and my hair feels lovely and silky and less frizzy too :) I sometimes use a tiny amount as a serum, and as you say it smells so good! I try and cook with it whenever I can too- it's just so useful!
