DAILY DECEMBER #31 // A round up of my year, 2014

2014 has been a strange year for me; I spent 10 months of it in a relationship which I'm no longer in, so looking back at a lot of the memories I have is quite painful, as they involve somebody I adored with every fibre of my being, who threw me away like an empty pizza box. So when I think of a lot of the things I've done and achieved this year, I have mixed emotions - but that's life and I can't say I wasted 10 months, because even though I'll never get them back, I learnt a lot about myself and the way the world works.

I passed my first year of university with a solid 2:1, and got a first in the piece of work that I was the proudest of - the first few scenes of a film script, which hopefully one day I'll develop further when I have actual time and head space. I started my blog over the summer, to keep me occupied as I was going through a bit of a rough stage in my life; it has grown into something I can't imagine not doing, and I've had the pleasure of getting to know so many other amazing people through writing it.

A lot of crazy stuff happened over the summer too, which I can't go into because it involves other people too but it's safe to say my head wasn't a nice place to be and I did some stupid things which I'm not proud of. I wouldn't say I'm feeling 100% better now but I'm getting there and I have my wonderful family and friends to thank, which I know is cliché to say but they literally are diamonds.

I started my second year at uni, moving into a brand new house with three boys I hadn't met, which is normal in first year but it felt strange in second year - everyone was moving in with their little cliques. But it ended up being a good move; we get on really well over a shared mind frame of ignoring the dishes as long as possible, and the love for our disabled hamster, Buddy. Through my degree I have decided I want to work in the publishing industry, as books are just everything. I am hoping to do a work placement in publishing next summer, so if anyone has any contacts they can put me in touch with, I'd be forever grateful!

I got two new tattoos, a moth on my ribs and a bee on my shin - not as much new ink as I'd like but these things cost money and a girl's gotta live on something more than spaghetti hoops. People often say to me "what does your tattoo mean?" and when I say, well my moth doesn't particularly mean anything, they're horrified. They go on about how it's on my body for life (thanks, guys, I really didn't know), and I do my best to explain to them that art isn't just about what you hang on your wall, these days it can be so much more than that and so I choose to have the art work that I like in a place where I can always see it.

At uni I've started playing badminton again, which has been so much fun; I've met so many lovely people and even had the opportunity to play competitively for the team, which is funny because I'm a bit rubbish. It's good to get out of the house, away from my laptop and actually move about a bit ... I'd recommend it! Societies at uni are such a good thing to be a part of, and if you're at uni and you've not joined one, you really should.

One of the best experiences I had in 2014 was going to Leeds to see my favourite band, A Day To Remember. I was supposed to be going with my now-ex boyfriend; we had bought our own tickets and I'd paid for a hotel, but obviously we broke up and I couldn't find anybody to go with. I could have just sold my ticket, cancelled the hotel room and not gone, but what would be the point in that? I got on a train and took myself to Leeds, got hopelessly lost and paid £5 for a sandwich upon the realisation I'd only brought jaffa cakes and vodka. I went to the gig and I was in a room full of people who all loved my favourite band, who all knew all the words to all of my favourite songs, who were all having an amazing night just like me. I made friends with some people and we went to a bar afterwards, and I was unequivocally happy and my life was like one of those "coming of age" movies, whatever that means. And I think there's an important lesson to be learnt: just do the things you want to do. Circumstances could have prevented me from having one of the best nights of my life, but looking back I wouldn't have missed it for the world. So what I had to go on my own?

My latest tattoo - the day I got it, hence blood/swelling!

Halloween with my badminton friends.

Free champagne on a cruise to Amsterdam.

Taking photos for charity #Coppafeel

Selfies with the pooch.

My 19th birthday.

The race for life 10k for Cancer Research UK.

I know this a really long and rambly boring post but it's so hard to get good blog photos at the minute that doing reviews is getting pretty difficult! I like writing posts like this one though, because it's nice to reflect on the year and see what you've done and what you've learnt. I hope you've had a good 2014, although I for one can't wait to see the back of it.
